ElseKept is intended to make encrypted backup and recovery more understandable. A backup tool still requires careful setup, independent copies and regular recovery checks.
Personal license
A purchase grants one person a perpetual, non-transferable license to use ElseKept on up to three Macs they own or control for personal use. The license includes compatible ElseKept 1.x updates. A future major version may require a separate purchase, but existing recovery capabilities are not disabled when an update is not covered.
Payment and refunds
Checkout, local-currency conversion, applicable indirect tax, receipts, payment disputes and transaction support are provided through Stripe Managed Payments, with Link shown as merchant of record. Product and license support is provided by ElseKept.
ElseKept offers a voluntary 30-day refund period from purchase. Use the online withdrawal and refund form, the Link support route shown on the receipt, or email [email protected]. The online form sends an immediate email acknowledgement of receipt. A full refund ends the license and future license recovery. It cannot remotely erase a license file already downloaded to an offline Mac. This policy is additional to mandatory consumer rights, which are never limited by these terms. Where the law requires separate consent before immediate access to digital content affects a statutory withdrawal right, the live checkout must present and record that consent.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for selecting the correct source data, choosing suitable storage, granting necessary macOS permissions and checking that backups complete. Keep the Recovery Kit separate from every configured backup. Maintain at least one independent copy of important data and periodically confirm that critical files can be recovered.
If the Recovery Kit and all authorized recovery identities are lost, encrypted backup data may be impossible to open. Removing a plan from the app does not automatically erase remote encrypted data.
What ElseKept does not replace
ElseKept protects selected user data and supported recovery material. It does not create a bootable system image, reinstall macOS, restore every system setting or guarantee that third-party applications and accounts can be reauthorized. It is not a substitute for a complete, independently tested recovery strategy.
Storage providers
Apple, Google, Dropbox, S3-compatible services, WebDAV services and other storage providers are independent third parties. Their availability, quotas, terms, account security and data handling are outside the developer’s control. ElseKept can report only the provider state it can observe.
Independent distribution
ElseKept is distributed independently outside the Mac App Store. The current release is not Apple-notarized, so macOS requires one explicit first-launch approval in System Settings under Privacy & Security using Open Anyway. Official downloads include a published SHA-256 checksum, and in-app updates are cryptographically signed. ElseKept never asks users to disable Gatekeeper or other macOS security protections.
No guarantee against data loss
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ElseKept is provided as available and without a guarantee that every backup, provider, update or recovery will always succeed. The developer is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from use of the app. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Acceptable use
Do not use ElseKept to violate law, infringe rights, bypass storage-provider restrictions, attack systems or store content you are not authorized to process. You remain responsible for your data and provider accounts.
Intellectual property
ElseKept, its name, logo, interface, first-party software and documentation are owned by Tobias Wilhelmsson. Third-party components remain governed by their own notices. Purchase grants the personal-use license described above, not ownership, redistribution, resale or trademark rights.
Updates and changes
The application may offer cryptographically signed update information and explain what changed. A self-signed, non-notarized app update may require the Open Anyway step or renewed macOS permissions. A purchased license continues to unlock compatible 1.x releases even when a newer major version is offered separately. Terms may be updated when the product or legal requirements change, with the new date shown on this page.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Swedish law where legally permitted. Mandatory consumer protections and the right to bring a claim in a competent forum are not waived.
